7th Annual Silicon Valley Bike Summit Agenda

Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition is excited to invite you to the 7th Annual Silicon Valley Bike Summit, hosted by Microsoft, this year on August 8. See below for the preliminary agenda and session topics. Times, topics, and speakers are subject to change. This post will be updated as the event gets closer. We look forward to seeing you!

9:00 am Breakfast

9:30 am Program starts with Executive Director Shiloh Ballard

9:45 am Keynote: Tamika Butler, Executive Director, Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition

10:20 am Vision Zero and Enforcement session: This session will focus on the enforcement aspect of Vision Zero implementation locally and in other cities in California. Speakers will include representatives from law enforcement, advocacy, jurisdictions, and elected leaders.

11:35 am Breakout Sessions

  1. Safe Routes to School planning and implementation: Local representatives will discuss strategic funding of Safe Routes to Schools programs to ensure equity and how to use a variety of mechanisms to implement needed bicycle facilities that enable green student commutes.
  2. Bikes + Transit: parking and access: BART and Caltrain will discuss bike access to/from stations, parking at stations, and on-board access for bicycles.
  3. Protected Bikeways: Workshop on engineering and planning networks of protected bikeways, including how they fit into broader public life efforts and making for people-centered streets.

12:45 pm Lunch

1:45 pm Breakout Sessions

  1. Planning Low-Stress Bike Networks: Creating better bike plans and tools for developing low-stress bike networks will be discussed. Local cities will also present their plans for low-stress bike networks, including protected bike lanes and bike boulevards.
  2. El Camino Real – A debate on the need for installing safe bikeways on El Camino Real and parallel routes.

3:15 pm Awards  (Vote here!)

3:35 pm Encouragement/Culture Change: This session will be PechaKucha style in which presenters will have about 6 minutes and 20 slides to present their program. Presenters include SVBC Routes Scouts, Silicon Valley Bike Exchange, VivaCalleSJ, and more.

4:45 pm Complimentary social hour: Mingle with colleagues and new friends and discuss everything you’ve learned today.
